Menu Monday: Post Easter Feast

I was so thankful to be picked for a Kroger BzzAgent Campaign just in time for the holiday and a great way to start the menu for the week!

One of the bigger problems we've faced while renovating the house (and since I started working) was the family meal. We've been popping through drive-thrus and turning to not so healthy or yummy options too often.

This Kroger Bzzkit is all about bringing the family home for dinner. I got to get a lot of ingredients that would make a wonderful feast for my family:

Pictured:
A Kroger Moist & Tender Pork Tenderloin
Kroger Macaroni and Cheese
Kroger Crescent Rolls
Kroger Cake Mix
Kroger Frosting

I cooked the Moist & Tender Pork Tenderloin in the crockpot with garlic and other seasonings all day. The Macaroni and Cheese was so easy, just had to microwave it! The crescent rolls took little time to make, and I added some green beans and tomatoes to balance the meal out.

That was such a great family meal. We talked about our day (we had fun at an egg hunt AND flying kites in the park). I thought for sure my daughter would eat all of the roast, but she didn't ;)

I still have leftovers for BBQ pulled pork sandwiches. I also plan to use the cake mix to make a pinterest cookie recipe I found, but that won't be until later.

Kroger has many options that help you bring the meal to the table after a busy day and can be fast enough to work in between lessons, practice, or meetings. I love that this brand offers both quality, and keeps my food budget in check.

What meals are on your family table this week?

Fashion Friday: Neutrogena Norwegian Formula® Review and a Manicure

I'm a BzzAgent and got to try out Neutrogena Norwegian Formula® Hand Cream (and share it with others!). This time of year is perfect for this, because as a teacher (and parent) I am constantly washing my hands. that combined with the dry heat of having the furnace on made my hands so dry and chapped, they were painful.

I immediately felt relief when trying Neutrogena Norwegian Formula® Hand Cream! That's because:

  • One dab works on 7 areas of damage!
  • It is long lasting
  • It keep manicured hands beautiful
  • You can even use on lips as needed.

I wanted to put the Manicure to the test and try out a new way that I've admired on pinterest- water marbling.

Yeah, my hands are soft but they  were a MESS. That was a fail. I've taken some advice from a friend and when I feel brave enough I'll try it again. But even after that mess, I wanted to try again because I felt like my hands looked good enough to have a manicure.

I know Crackle isn't as popular as it used to be, but I loved this pop of color! I feel like on these gray and dreary days I needed a little vibrancy.

I love how the Neutrogena Norwegian Formula® soothes my hands. I carry it with me wherever I go, even though I don't need it that often. It's really helping my hands survive this winter!

*Disclosure: I was given a free product to sample as well as sample sizes to share with friends, because I am a BzzAgent. All opinions expressed are my own. Check my disclosure policy if you have any questions.

COVERGIRL blastflipstick- review + BzzReport

Being a BzzAgent has many perks, and one of them is discovering new products and being able to share them with friends!

Recently, I got to try the COVERGIRL blastflipstick in Vixen and really loved the different looks I could create with just one product. It was like having 3 different shades in one and could easily take a look from day to night. The blastflipstick was also light and not cakey like some lip colors can be. I can feel a little self-conscious with darker lips, but I feel like this was a good look for me.

The ombre trend seems to be here to stay, and you can mimic this effect with the blastflipstick. I loved being able to pick my own shade and know that I can be in control of how it looks and change based on what I feel like wearing. I can't wait to try out the different shades, there are tons of looks to create, and at $8.49 it is an affordable way to have so many options.

Check out the COVERGIRL facebook page to find the shade perfect for you!

Glade Expressions(R) Collection- Review + BzzReport

I'm a BzzAgent, which means I get to review and "Bzz" about new products! I love this because there's no better way to figure out if you like something than to try it out :)

I got to try Glade Expressions® Fragrance Mist and Glade Expressions® Oil Diffuser, both are different products that help solve the stinky house problem while making the house look nice as well!

I do the best I can to keep the house clean and smelling fresh, but especially since I started working I've had to do what I can, but not as much as I used to. I pickup the house nightly (as possible) and wipe down surfaces, but my deep cleaning is saved for the weekends. Even with 3 kids (and 2 grownups!) using the bathroom, the Glade Expressions® Oil Diffuser in Pineapple & Mangosteen has been a miracle worker. I can walk into the bathroom and it smells fresh and nice. It also goes well with my beach house theme:

I also loved Glade Expressions® Fragrance Mist in Fuji Apple and Cardamom Spice. It is like fall in a mist, that not only smells great but looks nice on the counter so you don't have to hide it away. You can also buy refills of different scents so you keep the style, but your scent can change with the seasons.

Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine- BzzAgent Review

If you haven't signed up for BzzAgent yet, I really don't know what you're waiting for! Check through the tags and you'll see all the amazing campaigns I've been able to do for FREE.

Ever since I found a hairstyle I can actually manage, I've loved doing my hair. Some days it can be a little time consuming and my style tends to dry my hair out. I color it and also blow dry and straighten it. Even using a heat protection spray the ends can be a bit fried. So when I heard about the BzzAgent Campaign for Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine, I jumped at the chance to hydrate my hair.

BzzAgent was not stingy with this BzzKit. I got to try out a full-sized bottle of shampoo and conditioner! I liked this because with a small sample you can't really tell if it works for your hair. I got to give this a few uses before I could really judge if I liked it. I also got to share it with my mom when she was out here for my graduation!

The test. I used Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine before graduation, and my hair looked great throughout the ceremony. It felt softer than usual and I loved the scent. The only downside is that it kind of threw off my hair routine. I am usually able to wash my hair every other day, which is more convenient since it takes a bit to style my hair. Using this, I felt like I had to wash my hair every day (which really isn't feasible with my busy schedule). I think if I give it some more time I may become used to the feeling (so thankfully I have a full bottle to try out). For those of you who shampoo daily anyway, this won't be an issue at all.

Don't take my word for it! If you Like Garnier on Facebook you can order a sample to try it yourself! Hurry, while supplies last!

Comforts for Baby- BzzAgent Review

When I found out that BzzAgent was doing a Comforts for Baby campaign, I was SO excited. Then I realized I was excited about diapers. No regrets though, I'm still happy :) Tell me that getting this in the mail wouldn't make YOU happy?

I'm telling you, if you haven't signed up for BzzAgent.com yet, you're really missing out. Just check out my tag to see what cool products I've gotten to try for free and tell others about!

Okay, back to the diapers. I got to try Comforts for Baby diapers, wipes, and sippy cups. I have a one year old, so you better believe we put these to good use!

I am really not brand-loyal to diapers. I want something that will do the job but without costing a fortune. I don't need the diaper to have a fancy print (my baby wears clothes so it goes unseen) and sometimes the more expensive diapers seem to be less absorbent. I hadn't tried Comforts for Baby before this, but I have used many other store brands before as well as name brands.

Comparing Comforts for Baby to other brands, I think that it performs just as well. My baby's diapers didn't leak, smell bad (some brands just reek- even before the baby goes potty!), or feel rough. My baby didn't seem to notice a difference, which I think is a good thing. For the price, I think that this diaper is worth trying. I also like that it is sold at Kroger, because it can make for one less stop when I'm running errands.

I'm actually more picky about what wipes I use, more so than the diapers! I've had wipes that smell horrible, fall apart when used, feel rough, and dry out quickly. I would actually buy the Comforts for Baby wipes. I had fragrance free wipes and they didn't tear when I used them on even the more challenging diaper changes. I also didn't have to use 3-4 on a bad diaper, I didn't use more than 2 at a time. So not only are they cheaper than many name brands, using fewer means you get even more for your money!

My only complaint is with the sippy cup, though I don't think this is an issue with Comforts for Baby as much as it is with the type of cup in general. My baby prefers to drink from a straw. He learned that really early (around 6 months!) and it has just been easier (and less messy) to use the straw style sippy cups. I checked the Accessories page on the Comforts for Baby website and they do have a straw style cup that I would love to try! The cup includes a "no spill" part, but it can make drinking out of the cup more difficult. When used without the "no spill" part, it just turns into a mess because my son shakes the cup (which is probably the reason for the "no spill" part, haha!). I do like that it is easier to clean than the straw style cups.

Comforts for Baby offers a variety of products for Newborns through Toddlers and is available at Kroger (and their family of stores).

Private Selection® Frozen Foods- BzzAgent Review

Wrapping up my plethora of BzzCampaigns is this one for Private Selection® Frozen Foods. I first want to say that if you haven't signed up for BzzAgent.com you are really missing out. Just look back at my latest blog posts to see all the great stuff I've been able to try, and I know that I will be able to try more awesome stuff soon because every year gets better! :)

I loved the way this campaign was delivered. All I had to do was go to my local Kroger, swipe my Kroger card, and walk away with three Private Selection® Frozen Foods, for free. I got to try out an Appetizer, Entree, and Dessert. Easiest BzzKit ever.

I chose the Pepperoni Pizza with Roasted Garlic, the Southwestern Style Chicken Trumpets, and the Cream Puffs. I felt like each of these fit my family's tastes and was so excited to try them out!

My husband and I enjoyed the Southwestern Style Chicken Trumpets first while the kids were at school, and I'm glad that we did! There weren't very many in the package and I know that if I had to share them I would have been disappointed. They were really good, but I wish they had more per package.

I made the Pizza later for my family as a snack, since once again the size wasn't big enough for a meal. I was a hit, but the kids picked off the garlic. I love garlic and even I felt like it was a little much for the size of the pizza. Aside from that I really did like it. It felt more elegant than just a regular frozen pizza. I think in the future, I will serve the kids a regular frozen pizza and keep this one for the grownups.

Finally I wanted to share this BzzKit with my friends. I was invited to a party and brought a box of the Cream Puffs with me. It was really easy to serve them, just put them on a tray and let them defrost.

By the end of the night this tray was empty, so I think that speaks for itself. They were creamy and really light. I wondered how freezing would affect the texture and was pleasantly surprised. I think they would be an understated hit at any get-together.

If you want to try Private Selection® Frozen Foods, look no further than the freezer at your Kroger affiliate stores! These are great to have on hand in case company shows without notice. You can feel like you're serving something special without having to put in a lot of effort. The prices vary by product but are reasonable for something you use to entertain with.

Hill's® Science Diet® Ideal Balance™ dog food- BzzAgent Review

It's BzzAgent Time again! Yet another great campaign that I got to try out for Free! Though this one wasn't something I personally used- but a certain member of my family enjoyed it!

I was really excited to try this out, well like I said- not personally (I swear, eat it a couple of times as a kid and you get teased for life!) but for my dog, Dallas:

I got to let my dog try out Hill's® Science Diet® Ideal Balance™ dog food as part of a BzzAgent campaign. He is part pet and part work dog so what we feed him is important to me. He is being trained to be a search and rescue dog so I want to be sure that the food we feed him allows him to work well. I believe that Hill's® Science Diet® Ideal Balance™ dog food does the job. It has chicken as the first ingredient as well as many other fruits and vegetables, including cranberries, to help improve your dog's skin and coat.

I like that corn is not an ingredient in this dog food. When I was a kid, we had a dog that had a severe corn allergy- the problem was that it seemed like every dog food had corn in it! She would itch at her skin and it was just really frustrating to try to find something that would help her.

The only downsides are that the price is a little higher than the bargain dog foods- but many times you get what you pay for in that respect. You also can only find Hill's® Science Diet® Ideal Balance™ dog food  at pet specialty stores (including Petco, PetSmart and neighborhood pet stores), so you can't just pick it up when running errands.

Do you have a DFF (a Doggy Furry Friend)? What do you feed them?

Maybelline Baby Lips & Lots of Lashes- BzzAgent Review

Like I said yesterday, I love being a BzzAgent! Just by signing up for BzzAgent.com I have been able to try many products and nothing is better than free! Yesterday was cookies- today is makeup!

Makeup is one of my favorite things to sample. There are so many different products and so many new products coming out so with the endless options I feel a bit overwhelmed at the store. I also tend to want to keep my makeup within our budget, so the opportunity to sample products really helps me find out if I want to invest in them or if I can move on to try something else. Through BzzAgent I got to sample Maybelline Baby Lips lip balm and Lots of Lashes mascara

Let me first talk about this BzzKit:

Isn't it amazing? I was so impressed with how many samples I got to try out but rather than keep them all to myself (though that was so tempting!) I handed them out friends (though I did keep one set for me, I'm only human).

I already love the Maybelline brand and Lots of Lashes mascara is a staple in my vanity, but this one has a new wand that is supposed to reach the inner and outer corners of the eye without leaving clumps. It is only $6.40, which really is a good price for a mascara that performs well. Take a look at it in action (ignore the dork in the pictures!):

I thought the mascara defined my lashes really well. It also lengthened them and I had no issues with clumps or spidery looking lashes. My only complaint was that my lashes felt thin. That is more of a complaint about my own lashes, but I really love mascaras that add volume. If you wanted a mascara that provides a dramatic look, this isn't it. With that said, it is perfect for every day use. You enhance what you already have.

The Baby Lips lip balm was something I was excited to try out since I seem to have a lip balm addiction. I know I have mentioned that before! Unlike other lip balms, Baby Lips works to renew lips to their natural condition in four weeks. It can be tinted or not and there are a variety of flavors from Peppermint to Peach Kiss. Since it has SPF 20 it helps protect from UVA/UVB rays, which is always a bonus! You can have a light color and protection in one. It retails for $3.99 so it'd be a perfect stocking stuffer.

I sampled the Peach Kiss variety and loved the flavor and tint. It was just enough to enhance my lips without the feeling that I was wearing lipstick. I felt the need to reapply more often than I would like, but my lips do feel softer and I was happy with the product. I think there are times when I would need a more medicated lip treatment (like during the winter), but would add it into my rotation.

Both products provided a more natural look, which was perfect for one of my friends. She doesn't like to feel overdone so these were right up her alley! I was happy to be able to share some of the products with friends to see how they liked it.

For the holiday season, these could make wonderful stocking stuffers. I just put the packages of mascara and lip balm back to back, added some tulle through the holes in the package, and tied it in a bow. If you used red or green they could be more festive (I'd suggest giving the Peppermint!). If you have a small gift exchange with friends these could be the gift you could bring and you'd only spend around $10.

Kroger's The Truly Awesome™ Homestyle Chocolate Chip Cookies- BzzAgent Review

I cannot say enough good things about BzzAgent.com. This week I will be featuring not just one campaign, but FOUR that I am currently promoting. I can say that of all the websites that allow you to try out products for free, that BzzAgent has been the most worthwhile. I think if you can only sign up for one, I would choose it.

So now, Cookies! Who doesn't like cookies? Nevermind, I don't want to know!

I love to make cookies with my kids. It is a bonding moment, science lesson, and entertainment all in one. That ends with cookies, what's not to love? Only with school (for both the kids and me), extracurricular activities, a house to clean, sleep, etc we don't bake as often as I'd like to. So when BzzAgent offered me the chance to try and review Kroger's The Truly Awesome Homestyle Chocolate Chip Cookies- I was happy to oblige. Not only is the name a mouthful, but when they start making the cookies the chocolate chips are the first ingredient- so you'll get a mouthful of those too! Even better, they contain no preservatives or artificial colors so you can feel a little better about eating one..  or three.

I liked these cookies. They were sweet and chocolately, but a little crunchy for my tastes. I liked how big they were, since one could easily be a good treat, though if you can stop at one you have far more restraint than I do! They should really sell the cookies near the milk section of the store, because a tall glass of milk really goes well with these cookies. I also thought they were company quality and brought them along to a carry-in. They tray was empty by the end of the night.

Although I liked them, they weren't quite the same as homemade. One of my favorite parts of having homemade cookies is how chewy and melty they are (melty is a word, look it up) and as I said before, these were a little crunchier than I preferred. A friend said to put them in the microwave and that they would turn into an ooey-gooey treat. I had every intention of doing so until these people discovered the cookies:

To say they approved would be an understatement. They loved the cookies, complete with hot chocolate to increase their chocolate consumption for the day. It's good to know that even when rushed I can give them a treat that feels a little more homey, but for me it won't replace baking cookies. They also retail for $2.79 so it is a quick treat that doesn't break the bank.

Hanes(R) Comfort Toe Seam- BzzAgent Review

If I haven't mentioned it before, I love being a BzzAgent. I have had the fun of sampling many different products from makeup and teeth whiteners to cleaning supplies and even a Soda Stream! I love that they want honest opinions on the products and that they provide opportunities for me to share them with my friends and family- and to all of you!

My latest BzzKit was for Hanes(R) Comfort Toe Seam socks. Socks may not sound really exciting, but I was so happy to be selected for this BzzKit. I'm one of those moms that will let everything go in order to get things for my kids, and socks are one of the things that I will put off buying until I have more holes than socks. It's not a good habit to be in, but I'm just being honest. So getting new socks to try for free made me happy :)

BzzAgent sent 3 pairs to try, 1 Crew and 2 ankle. I loved the crew immediately. They were comfortable and the seam was really nice. It didn't bunch up or feel uncomfortable. I also really liked the ankle socks. I usually wear crew, but these have made it into my regular rotation.

I own some shoes that are tighter due to the style. Wearing socks with them before was either uncomfortable due to the seam or uncomfortable due to having to wear the oddly to avoid the seam. I did not have that problem with these socks. If you really hate the toe seam, then these socks are for you!

L'Oreal Paris- BzzKit Review

I had plans to clean the house today. I even got my supplies ready to go. Then the mail came and I got this:

Yeah, I played "dress up" instead ;) This is the BzzKit from L'Oreal Paris. It has The One Sweep Eye Shadow in Natural for Blue eyes, and the Double Extend Eye Illuminator Mascara in Black Crystal for All eyes.

I started with bare eyes to try this out. The L'Oreal Paris The One Sweep Eye Shadow is specially designed to give eyes a professional look with just "one sweep" using their special applicator. I loved that this eye shadow came with a built in mirror! Compacts usually do but eye shadow usually doesn't and it can be hard to apply unless you're in your bathroom. The mirror also made applying the eye shadow easier.

The applicator was a bit tricky to maneuver at first, but once I got the hang of it the eye shadow was easy to apply. I liked that it looked like I had spent more time than just "one sweep" to put it on, though I think that it takes more than just the one sweep to get a professional look. I had to touch it up a little bit, but it didn't take a lot of time to apply. I think that the applicator makes it easy for the 3 toned look, but it could use another applicator for touch ups, because it was hard to do that part with it. There are colors for Blue, Green/Hazel, and Brown eyes, and the suggested retail is $9.95.

I loved the mascara! It was very easy to apply and once I did, my eyes popped. Even more than with the shadow alone. I loved the pearlescent topcoat as well, it really took the mascara to another level. This color is suitable for all eye colors, but they also have colors specific for Blue, Green/Hazel, and Brown eyes and the suggested retail is $10.95.

I put together a step-by-step picture of the make up as I put it on. I think you can really see how the mascara made my eyes pop, even more than the eye shadow did.

I feel way overdressed for Spring Cleaning, but I love that it only took minutes to apply. It makes it easy for everyday wear, so I don't fall into my usual funk of a ponytail, bare face, and comfy pants.

Check out L'Oreal Paris on Facebook for more information. What color are your eyes? Do you buy makeup specifically for your color?

SC Johnson Spring Cleaning BzzKit- BzzAgent Report

BzzAgent has come through again. I have to say that I loved this BzzKit! It was one of the best I have received, not just because it was free stuff, it was stuff that I could actually use and give an honest opinion about! People tend to be pretty brand loyal when it comes to cleaning supplies, so having the chance to try a product that I may not normally purchase can really make me a new customer. That happened when using this BzzKit.

This is the "before" shot of my bathroom. Cleaning it inspired me to take down my shower curtain and wash that (I moved in in January and still hadn't done that-gross!). With the shower open I could easily spray it down with Scrubbing Bubbles Mega Foam. I am pretty short (5'2") so cleaning out the shower can be difficult. I can either skip the top of it and end up with streaks or build-up, or I can reach and scrub and end up soaked in the process.

You can see the Scrubbing Bubbles at work in these pictures. I was able to reach the top of the shower without a lot of effort and as soon as you spray the foam on, you can hear it start to clean! It says to leave it on for about 3 minutes then wipe or rinse off. During this time I was able to clean the sink and counter in the bathroom and start on the toilet. I just turned on the bathwater and shower to rinse it out. I filled a cup and splashed the water on the higher parts of the shower. I was able to clean the whole bathtub without ending up soaked!

The picture doesn't do it justice, but my shower was sparkling. I was really excited that I was able to clean my shower so quickly and with so little effort. It really helps you multitask too because you can start cleaning by spraying down the shower, then clean the rest of the bathroom and end with rinsing the shower! This is also supposed to keep cleaning for up to 4 days after (as you use the shower) and I did notice that my shower didn't have the build up that usually winds up on the walls (we have very hard water here).

Once I cleaned out the toilet (one of my least favorite jobs ever), I decided to try the Scrubbing Bubbles Toilet Gel. It was easy to put the applicator together, and you just need to push in the button on the side to apply just enough gel to the toilet. It stays in place and today is the 7th day and there is still gel on the toilet! This is one product that I am completely sold on. It doesn't just dye your toilet blue (it doesn't color the water at all), it actually cleans with every flush! My bathroom tends to get pretty smelly with 2 boys in the house, but it still smells fresh in there a week later. That is no small feat in this house!

The gel is also discreet. It took some angling to get a picture of it to post here. I remember the days when my daughter was scared to use the bathroom if it had blue water, this would be a solution for cases like that since the gel can be placed out of sight. It is also better than the cleaners that are placed in the tank because you can tell when it needs replaced without having to lift up the back of the tank, and no matter how frequently the toilet is flushed, the same amount of cleaner is used.

Pledge Lemon Shine is a product that is probably the most familiar in my BzzKit. I remember as a kid I would spray it in a room to make it smell like I cleaned. Just wiping down a couple tables and stacking papers would instantly make a room seem cleaner! I decided to try it out on my shelving in the kitchen. I put small appliances there and though I wipe around them, they can collect dust! In this picture I wiped the left side down with Pledge and left the right side untouched. You can see a difference in the sheen of the wood.

This the "after" picture. The wood looks shiny and clean and I even wiped the outsides of the appliances with my Pledge rag and they are shiny as well. Pledge is most known for its use on wood, but it can also be used on stainless steel and granite surfaces! So rather than buy many different cleaners for different surfaces, this can help you tame the collection of cleaners under your sink :) I loved how clean my kitchen smelled after using Pledge too.

The BzzKit also offered a Glade Lasting Impressions Scented Oil in Crisp Waters. I had a fan plug in that I used this in and Glade Scented Oil refills are not just for Glade Plug Ins but can also be used in Air Wick plug ins as well! I was impressed to hear this because usually once you buy the plug in you stick with that brand refills, but this gives you even more options without having to buy an entirely new kit. I decided to use this in my daughter's room because for some reason it always smells musty in there. I don't want to use candles or things that generate heat because I don't really want to leave that in her room without supervision. Even on the lowest setting I could smell this throughout my house. I left for a few hours and came back to a whole house smelling fresh- not just her room. I also liked that I could adjust the plug in so that I could fit her clock and night light in the plug as well since her room is really short on outlets. The only downside is that the smell can be a little overpowering and seems to have triggered my husband's allergies. We are going to keep it for a couple days, then remove it to see if that changes things.

Finally, I have the Glade Spring Collections candle in Sparkle of Spring. This candle does smell like spring in a jar, but is not overpowering. I loved that the label can be removed, because after doing so it looks like a candle chosen to match the decor rather than a candle used to help control odors! It is a good-sized candle as well and I plan to see if it does last the 22 hours advertised.

This SC Johnson Spring Cleaning BzzKit really gave me a jumpstart on my spring cleaning! It was gloomy outside, but I was able to feel like spring was near while using the products. I am thankful for the opportunity to try these products for free, because I discovered new products that I plan to purchase. Though I was provided the kit, the opinions expressed are completely my own.
