Using Shopkick while out and about is a great way to earn "kicks." These kicks are like points that can be redeemed for giftcards. It seems so fresh and without mistakes, but I feel like I need to apply that perspective to each new day! It's one of my goals for this year, to be more mindful about my life. Wherever I am, that's where I am.

1. My home is usually a mess. I know that part of it is that we live busy lives and sometimes have "drop and go" days. I also know that part of that is an excuse because I put off the little things until they are big things, and then feel overwhelmed by it all. I'm not happy when my home is a mess and since it bothers me, I want to fix it. It won't be perfect, but it'll be better.

2. This one is a usual goal, but I know how I can reach it. I work out often and intensely, but you can out eat any workout plan, and that's what I've been doing. I will control my portions, and practice the 80/20 approach to eating. I'm human and won't pass up a treat, but I know that overindulging isn't worth it.

3. Mindfulness can feel like a buzz word, but for someone with anxiety I feel like it's something I need to practice more. So often I have my lists going on and am planning the next thing I need to do while I'm spending time with my family, friends, or even having a moment of peace. This needs to stop.

4. This is a fun goal. My goal for 2017 was to squat 125 and I blew that away by squatting 155. I just think it would be fun to see that number grow. I love the feeling of getting stronger each day!

5. My marriage is important to me, but usually it gets the backburner due to kids, my job, and everything else that I feel responsible for. Usually I feel like my husband would just understand, but I don't feel like that's fair to him, or to us, at all. I want to spend more time with him and make our relationship a priority.

6. We racked up some debt this year and have some big expenses coming up. Some fun (like vacations) and some not-so-fun (plumbing repairs- ugh), but important to us and things we can afford if we spend responsibly. I would feel so much better without this debt hanging over my head.

SO those are my goals for this year! What do you hope to accomplish this year?Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3044415724181970684.post-29576371871854638642017-12-28T09:00:00.000-05:002017-12-28T09:00:21.879-05:00Money-Saving Apps: Ibotta

One frugal tip I have for anyone with a smart phone is to find apps that help pay YOU to use them. The good thing about such apps, is that there are many that help you earn some money by scanning receipts, getting your steps in, or get rebates back on items you'd normally purchase.

An app I use often is called Ibotta.

To use Ibotta, you open the app and select the store you're going to shop at. You can also use it for online purchase by using the app to go to the store's website.

Check through the list of things you can get a rebate on, many times there are "any brand" items that include produce, meat, or dairy products! Every so often there's an "any item" rebate for 25 cents, that adds up if you use it for each shopping trip!

Sometimes after I'm done shopping I check the app to see if anything I bought would be matched fro a rebate, but I suggest checking beforehand while you make your list if you're not brand-loyal. You can make a note to check and see if the brand available for the rebate is the better price or not. Then you scan your apps, select the rebates you've qualified for, and wait on getting that money back.

You'll be able to transfer that money back to gift cards to retailers like Amazon, Walmart, and more.

My only complaint is that in my area I can't use Ibotta for Aldi. I do most of my shopping at Aldi because of their amazing products and prices, so my Ibotta rewards come from trips to Walmart, Kroger, or other stores to pick up the few things Aldi doesn't carry. If you shop at those stores normally, you would probably get even more money back from Ibotta.

So it's over! You made it through the family get-togethers! Meals were made and eaten, presents were wrapped at the last minute, and now you finally get a full night's sleep.

What now?

Well if you're anything like me, the days after Christmas can be difficult to navigate through. The lack of structure, the chaos of the event, and the financial worry from going a bit overboard can seep in and grab ahold of my anxiety. It also doesn't help that I miss my Cali family so much this time of year.

These feelings can turn the hopes of a productive break into one that leaves me unsettled and feeling like I "wasted" it when I get back. There's nothing wrong with taking time off, watching some Netflix, and letting the to-do list wait. There is something wrong with feeling so overwhelmed that you do nothing, and continue to do nothing in the hopes of avoiding everything.

To combat this, I practice something called self-care. The good thing about self-care is that it doesn't have to cost a thing, because it's more of a mental shift. Rather than fall into the void, you make the effort to do one thing. That one thing can vary from person to person, but tends to lead to doing one more thing, then another. My 5 self-care tips that help me get focused and let go of anxiety are:

1. Take a shower.

Yes, I understand that it seems simple. Again it's a mental shift, for me taking a shower usually means I'm getting ready for the day. It forces me to do my hair afterward, and while I'm there I tend to do my makeup too. I put on real clothes. It's a small, intentional step that helps me get back to a better mental headspace.

2. Drink water.

Again simple, but I feel so much better when I intentionally drink water. When I start to feel anxious, adding coffee to it can make that jittery feeling more intense. I can also feel panicky because I still don't have the drive to do something, but I have an increased heart rate that makes me feel like I need to be doing something. It's not a fun feeling, and doesn't help me get moving.

3. Get dressed.

Real clothes. Do your hair. Put make-up on if you feel like it. Again, it's simple, but it goes back to the intent behind it. When I feel like I'm getting lost into the abyss, getting dressed helps me recenter. I love a good pajama day, and days when I don't have to put in a ton of effort. These days are not the same. It's less about relaxing and more about giving up. On those days, I need to put on real clothes.

4. Go outside.

Take the dogs out. Walk with a family member around the block. Sometimes it's enough to just get out of the door and away from the walls that both protect and smother you. If it's cold, rainy, miserable- you don't have to be out for long. Just long enough to have left the walls for a bit.

5. Pick one thing.

This is intentionally vague, because the abyss can vary from person to person. Pick something that you feel needs to be done. One, small thing on that list in your head. Maybe it's taking the tree down, getting the dishwasher unloaded, folding a basket of laundry. Something, but not everything. Your one thing isn't "do the laundry," that's too broad. As we know, laundry is never really "done," so rather than help your anxiety, this will leave you feeling like you still have that mountain to climb. Specific, attainable things such as "fold the basket of laundry by the steps," "unload or load the dishwasher," and "take out the overflowing trash" can be completed. It can be scratched off the list. You can go back to the couch sit once it's done.

Then drink some water and, if you can, pick one more thing.

Hopefully by doing the 5 steps, you start to feel less anxious, and at the same time start taking steps to get rid of the things causing anxiety. You may be able to get many "one things" done in a day and start to feel like you're back in control. You may just get the "one thing" done. That's okay too. You can try again tomorrow.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3044415724181970684.post-60955445449519011242017-01-02T10:12:00.001-05:002017-01-02T10:12:12.400-05:00Is this thing still on?So I disappeared.

Sorry.

Sometimes when you get everything you've spent years working for you discover that it is even more work. You may also feel like you're missing something that you thought you'd have.

When I started this blog, it was an attempt at a few things. The first was generating some sort of income. I wasn't frugal because it was trendy, I was in survival mode. I also felt like others may be in the same boat and could use some of my ideas. I blogged while school and applying to become a teacher and wanted a place to share some ideas. Balance that all with being a mom, and I felt like I had something to offer.

Now?

Now I feel like my budget is completely out of control, I have no idea what I plan eat on any given day, and the adorable toddlers who had play dates are growing up so fast that I can't keep up.

So I'm going back to my roots. Blogging helped me then and I'm hoping that it will help again.
Raising a child at any age is challenging, and when it comes to mothers and daughters, the dynamic can be even more complex. What some may dismiss as “typical tween girl behavior” can sometimes be symptoms of something more serious. Research suggests that girls are more likely than boys to report having mostly inattentive Attention- Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) symptoms. Since inattentive symptoms can be less noticeable than hyperactive and impulsive symptoms, it is important that moms know what to look for.

That’s why I’m pleased to be joining Shire, CHADD and Holly Robinson Peete to announce the launch of keep momming, a new public service initiative geared towards the moms of tween girls to raise awareness of ADHD.

The campaign is anchored within a new digital hub, KeepMomming.com, where you’ll find tips, tools and other go-to resources for moms, including a checklist to help recognize the symptoms of ADHD – inattention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity – and then encourages moms to talk to their daughter’s doctor. Thekeep momming initiative can help moms learn about ADHD and provide ideas on how to spark a conversation and stay connected with their tween.

I'm so happy to say that I was hired full time as a teacher in my county. I can't wait to get to work and do what I've worked so hard to do. Unfortunately, with this good comes the bad news that I am not going to be blogging anymore. I know that with 3 kids, 2 dogs, 1 husband, and a (more than) full time job I will not be able to do it all. Thank you for the years of comments, encouragement, and for following me on this journey. All the best to you and yours. <3 nbsp="" p=""></3>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3044415724181970684.post-53342580640075968772013-08-29T20:25:00.000-04:002013-08-29T20:25:51.888-04:00$10 Amazon Flash Giveaway.I'm a Purex insider which means I get to win prizes for spreading the word about their new promotions. You'd think I wouldn't be so excited about cleaning- but anything that helps me get the bathroom clean is a good thing.
If you have a mold or mildew problem in your bathroom, Soft Scrub Mold and Mildew Gel will fix that. I used it in the bathroom and noticed a big difference on my toilet seat. I thought it was clean before, but it was able to get a layer of junk off of it (and I really try not think about that too much) and keep it clean.

I got one of these super cute iPhone wallets from a friend for my birthday, and I've gotten so many compliments on it that I bought a few more in different colors!
I received a product sample to facilitate my review and a promotional item as a thank you for participating.

I'm part of Mom Central Consulting and being a part of that great group of bloggers allows me the chance to review products and tell others about new things coming up. It also gives me some compensation for my time, even though the opinions are always my own.

I was recently given the chance to review Cascade© Platinum Pacs, and I was actually excited to do the dishes- well not quite excited. I was ready to put it to the test.

I hate having to rinse and "wash" my dishes before washing them in the dishwasher. I get scraping food off, but when I have to wipe ketchup or syrup off of dishes that should have been "clean" I get kind of frustrated.

Before I get into my review, let me share a bit about the Cascade© Platinum Pacs:

Cascade© Platinum Pacs feature an advanced triple action recipe that is specially designed to
leave dishware virtually spot-free and help prevent the build-up of hard-water film on dishwasher walls.

•Powers away tough, 24 hour stuck-on food
• Eliminates the need to pre-wash dishes
• Helps maintain the look of new machines and helps prevent additional hard-water build-up

• Delivers exceptional dishware shine

I was sold! We have hard water in my city, I usually have food that has been stuck on for 24 hours (when my dish hunt turns up all the ones I missed!), and like I said- I hate pre-washing the dishes.

Another thing I was excited to hear about was Cascade's partnership with Gail Simmons. If you check out instagram (or even my facebook posts) you know that people take pictures of their food. It's an experience, not just a meal, and when the dishes are dirty it kind of ruins the appeal.

As for my review, I was very impressed with the product! My dishes didn't have a film when I put them away, and I didn't have to rewash. I've used it all week (and while being at camp and various activities, there are times when the dishes don't get rinses or in the dishwasher right away).

I love that it also uses Dawn, because that is what I use for my dishes that can't be put in the dishwasher. I've tried other brands, but there's something about Dawn that makes my dishes FEEL cleaner, and I think that helps enhance Cascade Platinum.

As if Sparkling Dishes aren't exciting enough, Cascade is hosting a contest where you could win a Kitchenaid Kitchen Makeover just by taking part in their Photo contest and more information on their Instagram!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3044415724181970684.post-4677509446711113412013-05-28T15:33:00.000-04:002013-05-28T15:33:01.963-04:00Radio Silence.I haven't meant to be completely silent lately. I'm working on confronting things that stress me, and becoming active rather than an ostrich when it gets hard.

It's been baby steps.

I mentioned dealing with anxiety before, trying to find natural approaches and working through it. Or at least in my head I was going to work through it. After more sleepless nights than restful ones, week long anxiety attacks, and the feeling that I was falling into a pit that I couldn't crawl my way out of, I finally talked to my doctor.

I'm still working through a lot and feel like I have a long road ahead of me, but at least I feel like I'm making progress.

At the same time my daughter has been making progress with a diagnosis. We have more testing this month to see what we can do about her comprehension issues and figure out how to work with her. I think that it hit me, while going through all this testing to help her, that she wasn't weak just because she needed help- so I shouldn't feel weak for asking for it myself.

We learn a lot from our children.
I love being an Insider because Purex is a brand that I already use, because it is low-cost and worked well for our clothes. I like being able to share their new products because they are products I really use, even without the free samples.

Sometimes as an Insider I get to review products from other brands as well. I was able to try the new Soft Scrub® 4-in-1 Toilet Care for free in order to review it and get to host a giveaway for you all!
With the week ahead of me- Quick and EASY is something I need to chant over and over again. It may not be creative. It may not be repinned at all- but it'll keep my family fed and that's really the ultimate goal of making a Menu.

I plan to make a roast (since buying 1/4 beef we have a lot to pull from) with veggies cooked in the crock pot.

I hope that this will stretch to two meals, by making Beef Stroganoff with the leftover meat and serving it over pasta. Having 2 meals with 1 night of work is really how to get an easy meal.

I also plan to make Chicken stir fry. With a rice maker, the rice cooks itself, and by putting the chicken breasts in the crock pot with teriyaki sauce, it it a really easy meal. Just add frozen veggies and call it dinner.

I think we'll also do some tacos (either beef or chicken) and beans for another meal that is also a crown pleaser.

And the round it out- the ultimate of easy meals: Spaghetti. Add in some bread and a salad and it almost feels like you tried. Almost.

Like I said, nothing fancy or fantastic, but it will feed us and that's the goal ;)Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3044415724181970684.post-8567980150582439992013-05-05T19:15:00.002-04:002013-05-05T19:15:34.470-04:00I promise you- I'm still here! It's the end of the school year, which meant a lot to me last year when I graduated- but still means that the next few weeks will be really busy!

I was camping with the Troop last weekend, then started the week running.

This weekend we took a zoo trip with the Troop after also working for a Veteran's luncheon the day before. Add in dinner with the in-laws and I need a weekend to recover (again).

This week does not appear to be a break.

Monday: My baby will graduate from a Tiger Cub to a Wolf Cub as well as try to get the paperwork from our Scout Service Unit.

Tuesday: I have a Webinar to watch bright and early, then the IEP meeting for my daughter, and ending the evening with an all-troop meeting.

Wednesday: My daughter has further testing to see if we can figure out what is going on with her processing.

Thursday: After work, I go back to work for a carnival (where I'll be working a booth).

Friday: I sleep. After work, that is.

All of that is in addition to working each day, feeding the family, homework/housework, and possibly adding a second job. I'm trying not to feel completely overwhelmed by the week ahead. I know that won't help at all- but put all out there in black and white makes it seem like a lot.

The good thing is that I have a little over 2 "weeks" of work (11 days, though 2 I'm out of work!), but then the warp speed of summer will begin.

I hope I keep up. Thank you for being patient with me, I feel like I get to handling everything just in time for something to knock me off my roll.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3044415724181970684.post-84623708303323871802013-05-03T19:03:00.002-04:002013-05-03T19:03:38.552-04:00Purex Kick Back and Play This Summer Sweepstakes

We've noticed this problem really badly at my Sister-in-laws. She had ants everywhere, and since she watches my son, I didn't want him to have bugs all over his stuff. I also worried about where to put any ant bait because I didn't want him to get to it.

I was so happy to be picked as a Purex Insider to test out the Combat Ant Killing Bait Strips for free. I felt like this could solve the ant problem, while also keeping it out of the way. There is no mess with these, since you attach the strips anywhere you can stick the adhesive back, and they begin working at killing ants within hours.

I loved how easy they were to apply, we put them in the problem areas (like the pantry shelves) but did not have to worry about the bait strips making a mess.

The true result was that my sister-in-law said they have not seen as many ants since putting out the product. She still sees some stragglers, but this is so much better than constantly throwing away their pantry items because they've become ant infested. I'm so glad this worked, because I feel better about my toddler being there and not around anything harmful. The Combat Ant Killing Bait Strips are out of his reach!

If you check most school supply lists, you will likely see a request for crayons, but not just any crayons. Crayola crayons. These are a favorite for teachers because they are true to color (which is important when working with younger ones learning to identify colors) and work well in the classroom.
I love the different apps that are available for saving money, but this one really makes me happy because it benefits my child's school- without having to clip special labels or buy over-priced fundraiser items. I feel like it is a win/win because all I need to do to help their school is to shop as I normally would- and take a picture.
Using Shoparoo, you just take a picture of your receipt after shopping at certain types of stores. These stores include Supercenters, grocery, club, pet, dollar stores, convenience and drug stores. You submit that picture, and you're ready to roll. They will process it and based on your dollar amount and how often you submit pictures, your school is awarded points they can turn in for cash.

You also get to refer friends (even if they support a different school!) for points. The links above are my referral links (so that my kids get a little boost for their school), but you are able to join and support your own school.

Like I said. Win/win ;)
With everything going on in the world today, it can be easy to want to say that everyone is horrible and that we're doomed. I completely disagree. I think our outrage against the individuals who commit these horrible crimes shows that we have far from accepted these actions as normal.

Today, I'm thankful for the helpers. For everyone who worked so hard to let scared friends and family track down their runners. For the runners who finished a 26 mile marathon and ran another 2 miles to donate blood. For the people who ran toward danger to help, rather than away. For those who sat at home thinking, praying, and donating to causes as well as spreading the word to help others.
I've posted about the struggle we've had with my daughter before. We kind of have an update to that- in that this update is just that further testing proves what I have been saying for year.

Problem: the solutions are all the same. They may be rephrased, put on a special hand out, or in a "top ten list" but they are still the same. And they haven't worked yet. I'm not saying they aren't worthwhile, we still do so many things to help build comprehension, but she still struggles.

So I may need to set up another case conference and see what her options are.

Right now, if someone were to ask what my goal is for her, I'd not try to make it sound educated. I just want the work that she puts into her education have a more significant pay off. She works harder than many children I know, yet she continues to struggle.

I'm blessed with a daughter who WANTS to learn. She wants good grades, she wants to be a teacher, she loves school. She's a better person than me. She faces a struggle every day, she takes bad grades in stride, and she keeps on keeping on. I shut down when things get hard. I get upset when the work I do has little to no result. I give up or give in.

She doesn't. She continues the fight and I am thankful that I can learn from her.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0
