20 Mule Team Borax Laundry Boosting (and so much more)- Giveaway Ends 1/24

Ever since I was introduced to 20 Mule Team Borax  it has been something in stock in my laundry room. It helps boost laundry detergents and make your clothes cleaner, we even used it during Girl Scouts to may laundry soap.

But don't let that limit you, there's more to 20 Mule Team Borax!

House keeping:
1. Pour 1/4 cup in your toilet. Swish with the toilet brush and let set for 30 minutes or overnight.

2. Clean the disposal! Add 2-3 Tbs to your disposal. Let set for 15 minutes, then rinse with the disposal on. (This worked so well for our stinky sink!)

Pest Control:
1. Make an ant killer. Just mix 1 cup of sugar, 1/2 cup of water, and 1 Tbs of Borax. Place in a shallow dish for the ants to eat (Keep out of reach of children!).

2. The cure for cave crickets. We had them really bad when we moved to this house. These are the ones that look like spiders. I would be so grossed out every time I went in the basement to do laundry. Then I read to sprinkle borax on the ground because they will eat it. We haven't had an issue with them since!

Science Experiments:
1. Make plastic. Empty a glue bottle into a bowl. Fill the glue bottle with warm water and add it to the glue. In a separate bowl mix 1/2 cup of warm water with a teaspoon of borax. Slowly add it to the glue mixture and watch what happens!

2. Grow borax crystals. Boil water, and for every cup you add to a glass jar, add 3 teaspoons of borax. Tie a string to a pipe cleaner and suspend it in the jar. Leave it overnight and see what happens.

So whether you plan to get brighter laundry, banish pests, or just have fun- Borax has so many uses. Enter the giveaway below to win a box of Borax, 3 people will win!!

Troop Tuesday: Going Green

For Troop Tuesday, I wanted to talk about the things we did to work on a badge dedicated to Going Green.  We had different areas to cover to earn the badge, but I liked that what we did was applicable even if you aren't a scout.

We planted seeds in a recycled pot made out of a toilet paper roll. These are great for veggie starts because you can plant them directly in the dirt when planting your garden!

We also made signs for our bathrooms to conserve water. Leaving the faucet on while brushing your teeth is a way to waste water (and money!), so their signs will hopefully be a good reminder to everyone in the house.

They brainstormed different ways to save energy in their homes and took those plans home to their parents.

They also got to make laundry soap. This was the most popular activity!

You need:
Borax
Washing Powder
Fels Naptha Soap
A grater
A container to store it in

The easy steps:
Grate the Soap
Mix in 1 cup of Borax
Mix in 1 cup of Washing Powder
Mix together and use 2 tbs when washing.

Simple but lots of fun for our troop.

Purex Triple Action Review

Think of today as "laundry day" because I am finally able to post about the different products that Purex sent me to try for being a Purex Insider. I wanted to be sure I really put the products to the test, so I had to make sure I washed enough laundry to really give an honest opinion. I think that with the amount of laundry I do weekly, I could be considered an expert- but if you want to try these products out for FREE Purex will be having another sampling event. I will post when it goes live so that you can try before you buy!

Purex has a new Triple Action formula that is supposed to help make your colors brighter, your whites whiter, and make sure your clothes are as clean as they can be! I know that with 3 kids it can be really hard to separate by type, let alone by color, but I want the clothes to last and look good. Purex Triple Action Liquid helps solve this problem because it can be used on many types of clothes and I can feel confident that they'll all come out looking great.

I used it in my HE machines and I liked the results. Sometimes a front loading machine can get an unpleasant smell when it's used but I didn't notice that when using Purex. I also felt like it handled the messes my 3 kids made with ease. I didn't pretreat or use any other type of stain lifter. It is also much cheaper than competing brands so you can get good results without having to spend a lot of money.

That is pretty much the heart of why I use Purex to begin with. I felt that it performed well for the cost and am happy to support a brand that works constantly to improve its performance.

Purex UltraPack Review

I'm a Purex Insider, which is really such a great program to be a part of since I was a loyal Purex user long before I even knew they worked with blogs! I love that I get results at such a cheap price, and the way my family of 5 goes through laundry I know that using Purex has saved us a LOT over the years.

I was sent a "Tool Kit" that had a this new product in it and I was really excited to get to use it (I get way too into clean laundry!). I loved that I could just throw an UltraPack in the washing machine with my clothes and let it do the work. I didn't have to guess how much to use and didn't have to deal with the mess that sometimes comes with using a liquid or powder. You can use them in HE washers as well, and I was happy to see this since my Mother's Day present was a new washer/dryer set (told you I get into my laundry!).

The UltraPacks will dissolve even in cold water, so you can use less energy and still have clean laundry (saving even more money). I really liked using them at home, but I could only imagine how handy they would have been during the years we had to hit the laundromat. If you have a shared laundry area or don't do your laundry at home I think these UltraPacks would be perfect.

Purex will be hosting a sampling event next month, so you won't have to just take my word for it! You'll get to try it out yourself. I'll make sure to post when it goes live so that you don't miss out!
