Emmy Rossum Sentimental Journey: Review

I've been a fan of Emmy Rossum since the Phantom of the Opera movie. I watched it on repeat and tried to have my Christine measure up to hers (it didn't). I still have the soundtrack on my playlist and am in awe of her talent. My sister has also introduced me to the show Shameless, which stars Emmy Rossum as well as William H. Macy. She also stars alongside Emma Thompson  and Viola Davis in the upcoming feature film Beautiful Creatures in theaters February 13th. So I was excited to be able to review her new album Sentimental Journey.

This album is so different from what is usually on my shuffle rotation. The songs bring you back to another era., I feel like it was missing from my playlist. The songs are beautiful and her voice is so powerful. Through these covers of classic songs from the American Songbook we take an emotional musical journey through songs representing a specific month. I am a big fan of autumn, it is my favorite season, so I fell in love with her rendition of Autumn Leaves. I've had it on repeat constantly. It's a beautiful song and her voice conveys the emotion behind it so well.

Here are the songs featured, January through December.

  1. “Sentimental Journey” (Les Brown, Ben Homer, Arthur Green)
  2. “The Object Of My Affection” (Pinky Tomlin)
  3. “I’m Looking Over A Four Leaf Clover “(Mort Dixon, Harry M. Woods)
  4. “These Foolish Things (Remind Me Of You)” (Eric Maschwitz, Jack Strachey)
  5. “(I’ll Be With You) In Apple Blossom Time” (Albert Von Tilzer, Neville Fleeson)
  6. “Summer Wind” (Heinz Meier, Johnny Mercer)
  7. “Many Tears Ago” (Winfield Scott)
  8. “All I Do Is Dream Of You” (Nacio Herb Brown, Arthur Freed)
  9. “Nobody Knows You When You’re Down And Out” (Jimmy Cox)
  10. “Autumn Leaves” (Joseph Kosma, Jacques PrĂ©vert)
  11. “Things” (Bobby Darin)
  12. “Pretty Paper” (Willie Nelson)
